Should I Always Do A Clean Driver Install When Updating Drivers
Does anyone else clean install driver'due south every fourth dimension?
I've always done a clean install of drivers and uncheck the audio and 3d functions, equally I don't utilize them.
Does anyone else practice this, or know if at that place are any benefits? It's only kind of a stigma for me. Why install stuff I don't demand/use?

Similar you, I do the custom install, and go out out GFE, 3D, HDMI Sound etc., stuff I don't need.
I'll also use DDU, merely only if:
-
The update causes issues, i.eastward., stutters, glitches, framerates lower than expected, graphics settings not operating as expected.
-
In that location was a recent major OS update.
-
Switching GPU family (AMD <-> Nvidia).

Add to your DDU list; changing version 10xx to 20xx for example.

I don't and i do not see the benefit. The update yet removes the onetime driver completely and merely resets your setting changes if you tell it to. Commuter updates arent every bit sloppy every bit they used to be

Commuter updates arent as sloppy equally they used to exist
This is basically it, people are holding onto out-dated information.
Using a driver cleaner and going through a ritual has not been necessary for a very long time.
I've used Intel AMD and Nvidia and I but install the new drivers on top, never had a problem.
No need for a clean install, all it does is wipe all your settings.
level one
No and I'g annoyed at people who brag nigh doing it, specially doing a DDU every time. Admittedly pointless. Just do it simply if y'all really have a problem, which is much rarer than these people would pb you to believe.
level 2
I don't think anyone brags virtually it.
level 1
This wipes your settings every fourth dimension. I prefer to keep them and so I don't need to set everything upwardly again the way I want it.

Yes, every fourth dimension.
Maybe current commuter releases are skillful enough that they don't require. Mayhap. But why accept that run a risk when it'south an extra 3-5 minutes to exercise a clean+custom install with DDU and deselecting options you don't desire/use?
And since I don't update every new driver version, non a big deal! I but update when a new version fixes something or brings something to the table that I personally need. Minuscule functioning improvements are non worth information technology. If my drivers are working for all my games, I don't update them.

I don't anymore but I used to every fourth dimension. I haven't encountered whatsoever problems just downloading and installing through GFE in years at present. I know it used to be recommended to apply DDU and practise a fresh install every time but it seems like Nvidia have ironed out the problems upgrading through GFE, at to the lowest degree on my finish.

im doing it all the time, never had any problems, like driver restarts, depression fps, stuttering, bsods etc.

I always ddu and then custom install... kinda crazy tbh

A while ago, I had some resume from sleep issues which seemed to be resolved by not installing the Audio drivers - I remember this has been solved for a while though.
I started using DDU every fourth dimension, seem to exist having somewhat frequent issues, might likewise take the few minutes to re-install & re-configure from scratch every couple of weeks or months.
Hopefully this avoids issues that might crop up and become unnoticed until I might do some benchmarking.

I never did and switched graphcs cards a few times in the concluding year on different machines. Never an issue.

It'south a skilful idea doing a clean drivers install from fourth dimension to time, but doing that every time is not needed and of no do good
level one
nope, if yous're on an nvidia card that driver package is the aforementioned, swap the cards, get into windows and wait a few minutes, it will detect which card you swapped in and continue working only fine. If I'm swapping brands, so I use DDU and fresh install drivers.

I've been upgrading using the default setting of the setup for more than a year. Haven't had any problems. I upgraded my 970 to a 2080 final week and already upgraded ii 400 series drivers this way.
Y'all can always utilize the option of doing a clean install in the setup. Honestly, I don't see much value of using ddu every time unless there's something I don't know or a problem I haven't ran into.
level 1
Aye, I practise all options make clean every time and restart my PC afterward. Not to say anything other way is incorrect, it'due south just old habits.

It depends. If I am benchmarking, I do a clean install every time. If it is for me and it is the aforementioned driver family, and so I don't bother, and I just install the new drivers over the onetime ones.
I never use DDU since AMD and Nvidia drivers are on different SSDs. I'd rather exercise a clean install of Windows if there are serious issues (or just revert to a recent disk paradigm).

In case no i else always mentions it to you, "driver's" is possessive. Only "drivers" would have been correct here.
level 1
I think by default nvidia removes old drivers when yous install new ones.
